Shrink images without losing quality

Make JPG and PNG files smaller while keeping the same format and the same look. iPhone HEIC photos are converted to JPG. Nothing is uploaded: everything happens on your device, even offline.

JPG stays JPG · PNG stays PNG (lossless) · HEIC becomes JPG

How it works

Your images are opened directly from your device and processed by the same encoders professional image tools use, compiled to run inside your browser (WebAssembly). Nothing is sent anywhere, which is why it is fast, private and works offline.

JPG: the photo is re-encoded with MozJPEG. The app compares the result with the original (SSIM) and keeps the smallest file that still looks the same; phone and camera photos often shrink by half or more. PNG: compressed with OxiPNG, which is truly lossless: every pixel stays exactly the same, the file just gets smaller. HEIC: iPhone photos are decoded on your device and saved as JPG. If an image is already as small as it can get without losing quality, you get the original back.

Made for email, websites, forms and iPhone photos

Email and messaging

Phone photos are often 3–10 MB each. Shrinking them first lets you attach more photos to one email and send them faster, without them looking any different.

Websites and online stores

Smaller images make WordPress, Shopify and other sites load faster. Because JPG stays JPG and PNG stays PNG, you can replace your files without changing anything else.

Online forms and upload limits

Application forms and portals often reject large files. Shrink the image first and it fits, while staying sharp and readable.

iPhone photos (HEIC to JPG)

iPhones save photos as HEIC, which many Windows apps, websites and Android phones can't open. Convert them to JPG here, in bulk, without uploading your personal photos.

Frequently asked questions

Are my images uploaded anywhere?

No. Shrink Image never uploads your images. They are read and compressed inside your browser on your own phone or computer, and the smaller files are saved straight back to your device. No server ever receives them.

Will the quality get worse?

Not visibly. For JPG, the app measures how similar the result is to the original (SSIM) and picks the smallest file that still looks the same. PNG compression is truly lossless: every pixel stays exactly the same. If an image can't get meaningfully smaller without losing quality, you get the original back.

Does it change the file format?

No. A JPG stays a JPG and a PNG stays a PNG, so the file works everywhere it worked before. The only exception is HEIC (iPhone photos), which is converted to JPG because many apps and websites can't open HEIC.

How do I convert iPhone HEIC photos to JPG?

Choose or drop your HEIC photos. They are decoded on your device and saved as JPG files at a quality that looks the same as the original. You can convert many photos at once and download them as a ZIP.

Does it work offline?

Yes. After your first visit the app is stored in your browser, so you can open it and shrink images without an internet connection. You can also install it like an app.

Can I compress many images at once?

Yes. Select or drop as many images as you like (up to 100 at a time). Each one can be downloaded separately, or all of them together as a ZIP file.

What happens to photo metadata like location?

Compressed JPG files don't keep hidden metadata such as GPS location, camera model or date. This makes them smaller and safer to share. The photo is saved upright, so rotation is kept.

Is it free? Do I need an account?

It is free, with no account, no watermark and no sign-up.
